About Me

Getting Sally ready to go.

My name is Rob Jones.  I am a retired fire fighter. As a fire fighter I worked 24 hours and was off 48. This gave me time to indulge my passions, bird dogs and quail hunting. I have had bird dogs since the late 1960’s, mostly English setters with a few pointers and a Brittany or two.

I raise pigeons to train my dogs and work dogs all year. Its fun to go in the back yard and get 8 or 10 points in an hour or so. I also raise a litter of pups occasionally and start the puppies playing and chasing pigeons at an early age.

I have some private land to hunt in Missouri and when I went to Texas we hunted private land but most of the hunting is on public land.

The rules on public lands are different from state to state and whether its walk-in, Bureau of Land Management or grasslands. I will report where to get maps, what I find and anything that will help someone hunting this area for the first time.

I will not give specific properties I will only give an area. I can only tell about what I see. Your hunt will be different.

Happy hunting and may the Lord bless you even more than He has me.

I have been one of Rob’s hunting pardners for the last five years. His dogs are always broke and are all day dogs. What a pleasure to hunt over.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Rob for a couple of years now. His dogs are a real pleasure to hunt over and he is such a gentleman willing to share his knowledge of bird dogs to anyone with an interest. I’ve been in contact with many breeders over the past two years in my search for a second setter and no-one puts in the love and care to producing a fine bird dog as Rob does. I’m lucky to have lived close enough to handle his latest litter of setters every day from birth until Emma came home to stay. Robs setters are well socialized and just really nice dogs to be around. I confess to having my (2) dogs live in the house and ride in the front of the truck whenever possible. Emma is my first puppy and I’m having a ball training her – as she trains me. Thanks Rob!!

Hunted 2 different times now with Rob! His dogs are as calm and smooth hunters as their handler.

    LOVE to see them work.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Rob, his wife June, his daughter Dana and son Ryan since I was a little girl. I always remember the pointer dogs in the back yard. Glad to see you started a blog on hunting. Doing a fabulous job! So many people will appreciate your knowledge and guidance. Keep up the good work!

I’m from Ga and just started reading your post. Do you ever have any puppies or started dogs for sale?

    Thanks,
    Wayne

Wayne, I occasionally have puppies for sale. I had a litter last year and I may have a litter this spring. I have a couple of friends that want a puppy. Keep reading my blog. If I have a litter it will be on the blog.

Thought it very interesting that you had a dog named Lady that seldom failed to find a dead bird. I also had a little setter named Lady that found birds when my other dogs failed.
Also interesting that you have a dog named Blaze. I recently lost a female setter named Blaze who consistently found more birds than all our other dogs combined.
Also I am planning on going to Oklahoma to hunt on the Black Kettle in a few days, any tips on how and where to hunt. Additionally, do you have any suggestions for motels that are clean and reasonable.

Lowell, I stay at the Bradford Inn in Elk City. It’s hard to find but is clean and reasonable. Elk City is about 30 miles from Cheyenne. They got a lot of snow in this area and I’m not sure how the roads are but I usually hunt around Reydon.
